How Legos Informed My Reality
As a child, I spent countless hours building structures, primarily with Legos. These toys were my favorite because they allowed me to create whatever I imagined, weaving stories into each brick. The stories existed in my mind, while the bricks were tangible.
Reflecting on the past, I see many "Lego reflections" that have shaped the journey from who I was to who I am. My favorite pastime is engaging with a good story, whether by reading, watching, or listening. My favorite profession involves building and inventing. While these interests might seem opposite, they complement each other.
During a six-mile walk today, I thought about the numerous projects and stories I’ve crafted for others over the years. Working in a challenging corporate environment for fifteen years could easily become disheartening, but it has often been exhilarating, especially when a boss believed in my ideas and encouraged me to pursue them. Competition, too, can be enjoyable.
One of my professional rules is: work harder than everyone else, ask for what you want, and if you don't get it, move on. Quiet quitting isn't for me; I need to push myself towards the next adventure.
This next adventure is about more than just my profession; it’s about being present for my family, owning my future, and building something lasting. Every day from now, each brick I lay will contribute to something I own rather than rent.
I believe in the industries I've worked in and respect their competitors. Competition is a thrilling journey, where the best individuals or teams prevail, driven by consumer choice.
The current journey is frenzied and exhausting, and the first few years will likely be tough. However, the potential for a sustainable and rewarding future is life-giving. I'm now building structures that will tell the story of my family's future.
Besides Legos, what could be more fun?
